A tale of two quarterbacks

It has been an exciting week here for the Denver Broncos and their fans.  I received emails, texts and phone calls from friends–many of whom do not even follow football, asking what I thought of the new quarterback.

For our readers that are not football fanatics here is the simplified version.

The Broncos have a new quarterback! Peyton Manning!!!!!!   They signed the highly successful proven winner and exciting Peyton Manning.  Manning is coming off of several neck surgeries and has not played for an entire year!  The Broncos have signed Manning not knowing for sure how he will do after the surgeries. And knowing he is 36.

His team of 14 years cut him in favor of an unproven and as of yet undrafted Andrew Luck.  Luck is touted as being the next Manning!  A lot of potential but unproven in the NFL!  A scary move for the Colts.

The Broncos have traded the wildly unpredictable yet super exciting and talented Tim Tebow to the New York Jets!  Tebow has something of a cult following in the NFL so trading him is a tricky move for the Broncos.  He is very openly religious and that offends some.

I love both quarterbacks!  Both are good men on and off the field.  Both are good role models and are active in their communities.   Peyton Manning is a good guy and one of the only quarterbacks my Mr. 8 knows about.  The other two quarterbacks he knows about are John Elway and Tim Tebow.   At Mr. 8’s elementary school before the playoffs, the entire student body tebowed in the gym.  At a friends elementary school they are having a farewell party to wish Tim well in his new home.

We are sad to see Tim go, he is a good  man.  He is proud of who is he and not afraid to stand up for what he believes.  But I know he will be successful at whatever he undertakes.  I hope that Manning will continue to be the successful quarterback he has been thus far. I would love to see him win another Superbowl!  And I would love to see him break some of John’s records here in Denver.  I am not quite as confident as John Elway!   But I do love my Broncos and I love winning!
