This is it! The moment we’ve all been waiting for…except some of you, whose kids live in a state that does not want children to have fun, and so keeps them in school for a ridiculously long amount of time. Let me just say, if you are looking for a place to move, and considering a state that begins with ‘North’ and end with ‘Carolina’ you have been warned!
ANYWAY, here, we have KOOS[1] and I am here, as an experienced MOM[2] and MTO[3] to help you survive this sometimes harrowing time period. Those of you WKN[4] or WKE[5] feel free to smirk and laugh:)
(Just a quick note…did you notice I figured out Footnotes? And did you also notice if you hover over the number, it shows you the note?)
So, here are my Guide to KOOS:
1. TV. Give them none. Now before you freak out, let me just say, that you will be happier in the long run[6] because TV makes children stupid. Also, you will need TV on rainy days or sick days, and if you’ve been using it all willy-nilly, it won’t work when you really need it.
2. Chores. Give them lots. This one is important, and only hurts you if you are in the wrong mindset. Wrong: I want to be my kids’ best friend and I’ll just do it myself because they will mess it up and it’s summer, so they need a break, right? WRONG! Right: Ha Ha! It’s payback time for all those Parent Teacher Conferences and Band Concerts and Homework and Calls From Your Teacher/Principal/School Security.
3. Activities. Use with wisdom. You just finished Carpools. Do you really want to watch the summer pass you by from the window of your mini-van? Good activities include the following:
*you at home
*No Money, or very little
Ideas? Water, ie. sprinklers, pools, water guns. Friends, either at your house or walking distance neighbors. Wheels: bikes, rollerskates, scooters. Lemonade stands, sandboxes. Hula Hoops, frisbees, balls, and jump ropes.
4. Leave the house occasionally, with the kids. We like to go to the Library, Zoo, Park, and local museums.
5. Don’t forget to Have Fun. I like to get a comfy chair, Diet Pepsi, hat and sunscreen and sit in the backyard in the sun. It’s fun to watch the kids, and enjoy my summer, too.
Following these HDG[7] you can have a summer. I’m not saying it will be all fun and games, or even easy. KOOS are a tricky thing, and can turn on you in a minute.

Did I mention I’m getting chickens?
