So, a few months ago, a friend (Hi N!) invited me to join a local women’s chorus. I love to sing and happily trotted off to start practicing music with these talented women. They have a bunch of fun Christmas songs and have at least 1/2 a dozen concerts scheduled for this holiday season. They memorize ALL the Christmas music, which impressed the heck out of me, AND they get to wear a very Very VERY sparkly red shirt to perform in. I am ginormously impressed with this red shirt. (I plan to take a pic of me in my singing ‘outfit’ so you can all see the shirt)
After I joined this choir, it occurred to Blair that he ALSO likes to sing. But, alas, he cannot join with me because he is not a Woman. There is, however, another local choir that takes Women AND Men, so he joined that one. They are under the direction of the High School’s Choir teacher and have had a concert where they sang Mozart’s Requiem. Well, part of it, anyway. Apparently, it’s very long. They are learning the rest. When I heard that Requiem, I wished I was up there, singing that thing! But, suddenly, I realized the big drawback of singing in a choir. And that is, that when you are singing IN the choir, you don’t actually get to HEAR the choir. What you hear is the person behind and next to you, and the piano. When you are in a seat, you get to hear the whole freaking thing!:)
I sing in our church choir, too, and adore doing it. (It always bugs me to end a sentence with ‘it’…let me try again) I adore singing in our church’s choir. (eh, not exactly the same, but oh well)
ANYWAY
They are singing some amazing Christmas music this year. I love the choices of the choir’s director. That woman has imagination, even on a church budget!:) Go Gloria! Blair and I managed to join that one together:)
The upside is, lots of time singing, and fun concerts, AND the red shirt.
The downside is, two nights of practices and His and Hers concerts. The kids think we’re nuts.
My dream is to sing Handel’s Messiah in a choir. I seriously worship the ground that thing was written on. I LOVE that thing. I own the CD and listen to it year round.
*happy sigh*
Between truffles and Christmas music, I think I’m doing pretty good this Holiday Season.
Stop by and get a truffle from me, and I’ll show you the shirt, and give you a flyer for the concert where I will not only SING, but ALSO wear the red shirt:)
Happy Wednesday!
