Adventure, Thrills, Action Galore!

My brother , his wife and 8 kiddos have arrived.  We are all feeling grateful that they have arrived safe and sound.  Unfortunately for them, their safe and sound arrival was in question.

About two hours into their trip, they lost the treads on one of their tires.  According to first person accounts, there was a huge noise that sounded like they had run over the rumble strip on the side of the road, only they hadn’t.  This noise was followed by the van suddenly swerving back and forth.  Neice 7  jumped and flung her crayons everywhere, seats were clutched in fear, but luckily, no one was hurt or injured (or peed their pants).  They were able to get the tire fixed for free (thank you Wal-mart!) and continue on their way.

Another two hours down the road, they had peacefully stopped at a rest stop and were thinking about what to eat, when they heard a weird sound; a sort of rattle sound.  They checked the van and tried to continue.  The weird sound got worse, and turned into a “hose slapping against the engine cover” sort of sound.  Not good.

It was then that they realized their van was in imminent peril.  They were forced to stop at the Corner Market of Tiny Town and phone for help.

We here at home were beginning to wonder just where they may be when we got the phone call.

My dad and my dear husband started making plans for a rescue mission.  Luckily we have access to a 5-passenger truck with a cab.  Add our mini-van to that and we had enough room to actually go save them (and their stuff)!

The cavalry was off and operation save the family was underway!(Insert William Tell Overture here for dramatic effect.  This was the song that kept running through my mind the whole time.)

I knew this weekend was going to be a wild ride, but I didn’t mean literally.  Here’s wishing Maren and her crew have a nice uneventful trip here tomorrow. . . . .

Oh man! I hate car trouble! I hope that it turns out to be a quick and easy fix.

Not so quick and easy…probably leaving the broken van in Idaho for salvage but it was only a $350 van to begin with and it has run for five years!

We limped the van to the salvage yard and drove the rental home without incident. It ended up being easier to dispose of the van than originally thought but then we are now short a very large passenger vehicle. Everyone just has to run errands in the morning or figure out how to walk there!
