What are you doing on New Year’s Eve?

Happy New Year!

Do you have a party planned?

Are you looking forward to a fun night with family and friends?

Our New Year’s Eve plans are up in the air right now.  Seriously, we are juggling ideas but nothing has been decided.

Since we moved to the same town as my in-laws we have been enjoying New Year’s Eve with them and whichever (whomever/whatever) sibling-in-laws come to town.  This year, mom-in-law called me up and said no one is coming so we should make our own plans.  So My Dear Husband tentatively invited someone from work to party with us.  (party being board games and martinelli’s -yeehaw!)

Then mom-in-law said Sister B and her family might be coming.  Cool.  So we thought we  just needed to decide the location of the festivities- our house or theirs.  Then she said maybe Sister B and her family aren’t coming.  Oh.  But maybe Brother E and his wife will come!  We texted Brother E to find out for sure what their plan is and alas, they are not coming!  And we still don’t know if Sister B and the gang are coming.  And actually, at this exact moment, we don’t even know if the guy from work is actually going to join us!

Are you confused?  Me, too.

I was talking to mom-in-law about all of this and it turns out she only told me we should make our own plans because she thinks they are too “old” and we won’t have fun hanging out with them.  What???  They are totally fun so I assured her that we would love, love, love to be together for New Year’s Eve.  (if they want to)

Okay, seriously, you will not believe this.

Sister B’s husband just called (right now at this exact moment) to tell me that they are coming.  (great timing, eh?)  He wants to know what our plans are.  heh heh heh

I am getting a bit weary just thinking about all of this, but I can’t give up and stay home.  It is New Year’s Eve after all.

And I am haunted by a superstition I heard when I lived in Bulgaria:

“Whatever you are doing on New Year’s Eve is what you will be doing the whole entire year.”

So I’ve got to party right?  I might be an old mom with 5 kids but I’ve got to party because then I’ll have a rockin’ New Year.

On second thought, maybe I should eat nothing and go to bed.  Then I’ll get to spend the next year sleeping as much as I want and skinny.  Now that sounds like a really good year.
