I finished my all-too-time-consuming repainting of the kitchen cabinets. Now for the fun part: posting pictures!
Here’s the “before” pic of my kitchen:
My Dear Husband thinks it is unholy blasphemy to paint wood, but one day for some crazy reason he said, we could paint these kitchen cabinets some kind of dark brown.
I started painting RIGHT AWAY before he could change his mind!
Here are the “during” pics:
and (drum roll please) Here is the “after” pic:
Now, I do have one teeny tiny misgiving. I think I may have created “kitchen schizophrenia.” Look at this pic:
See how half of this kitchen is all sleek and stark and the other half is happy and homey? I’m not sure what to do about this- My Dear Husband thinks I should cut my losses and let them be two completely different rooms, but I am not so sure. I would love any advice you have to give right about now. . . . .
I think it could be two separate rooms. That’s my vote.
I think you should accent the kitchen with the bright colors from the dining room and tie them together. Maybe accent the fun room with some black.
I love it Carrie! The color turned out really well. You did a really good job! Now I have to disagree with my bro. If it was me it would drive me crazy to leave the dining area as it is. Paint is a really cheap way to make over your room. We will definitely have to talk. I would paint the middle trim in the dining the same color as the cabinets or white. And I would paint the room a more neutral color and have that back wall with the window be an accent wall with a much cooler color. I saw this cool accent wall today on a blog called “All things Thrifty” at http://www.allthingsthrifty.com/2010/04/sytycd-week-6-dont-be-afraid-to-paint.html It looks awesome! I have been thinking of doing something like that. Or another thought, you could put beadboard up under the middle trim to give the room more texture and paint it more neutral. I would take a little rest though before you start because that was a big project. Take your time to decide what you want. We need to talk though. The possibilities are enless!
Hmmm…I agree with you, Carrie. It doesn’t seem to flow. Not that flowing is everything…but if you’re already asking the question, I bet you know the answer 🙂 Maybe it’s nothing more than changing the colors to the other room…red?…checkered?
Hmmm….I agree with you, Carrie. It doesn’t seem to really flow. Not that flowing is everything, but it could be as simple as maybe changing colors to red or checkered in the other room?? The kitchen looks awesome though! Good job! I want to change my kitchen, I’m just too scared to and my husband is being a poo head about it. 🙂
I love it Carrie! It looks awesome. The color turned out really well. You did such a good job! Pat yourself on the back. As for the dining area, don’t listen to my bro. If it was me, it would drive me crazy. Sad to say they just can’t be separated and they don’t go together. But, I have some fantastic ideas and paint is really cheap. It’s just finding the energy to do it. We need to talk! That middle trim definitely needs to be painted the same color as the cabinets or white. I would paint the dining room a neutral color but paint the back wall as an accent wall because you do want some color in there (and maybe even paint an accent wall in kitchen, oven side perhaps). I saw today this awesome accent wall that I would totally love to do. You should take a look. It would be awesome. It’s at this site: http://www.allthingsthrifty.com/2010/04/sytycd-week-6-dont-be-afraid-to-paint.html Or you could put up beadboard below the middle trim (easy and not too expensive to do) all the way around and paint that a neutral color and then pick a more striking color for the top. Call me!!! The possibilities are endless!
So this is my 3rd time trying to post my comment. Your kitchen turned out awesome! I love it! As for the other half of the room, yes, I don’t agree with my bro, I sent you an email with my full comment I tried to post last time. We need to talk!
I think both rooms look great! I super-love the green wall! If it really bugs, just change the drapes to stripes!
AWESOME!! It looks so good. You did a great job.
David thinks it should be two seperate rooms and the contrast is really nice. They don’t clash, you just have a visual seperation of space.
Sorry the comments weren’t working everyone! Thanks for all the advice. I really love the green, I just have to figure out how to keep it. My mom-in-law thinks it’s too ‘warm’ and the other side is too ‘cool.’ But I am in love with it, so I’ve got to do something!
