As a Destination Imagination team manager, one of the exercises we practice is called Instant Challenges. The point is that the team will NOT know what they are going to do ahead of time. They hear the rules and have to solve it right then. So we practice a lot. Some are building, some are improv, and others are tasks. This week we did one called Good News/Bad News.
In the spirit of DI here is my good news/bad news:
The good news is that the Middle School DInsteins made it to the Global finals!
The bad news is the finals are in Tennessee as opposed to Hawaii!
The good news is Tennessee is less expensive than some exotic location.
Bad news, it is still expensive for the team to fly there.
Good news! The school district and our school will pay for a lot of the costs! (serious dance of joy right there)
Bad news, we still have to raise money for t shirt, incidentals, and pins (for pin trading–apparently a huge thing).
Good news! The kids are already selling candy bars and are planning a bake sale.
Bad news, I am a sucker for candy bar sales. I generally eat way too many of them! I will not personally be earning money, because I will end up buying the candy bars.
Good news, the kids are thrilled, and beyond excited, and so am I!
Go DInsteins! Tennessee or Bust!
