So, a few months ago, a friend (Hi N!) invited me to join a local women’s chorus. I love to sing and happily trotted off to start practicing music with these talented women. They have a bunch of fun Christmas songs and have at least 1/2 a dozen concerts scheduled for this holiday season. They memorize ALL the Christmas music, which impressed the heck out of me, AND they get to wear a very Very VERY sparkly red shirt to perform in. I am ginormously impressed with this red shirt. (I plan to take a pic of me in my singing ‘outfit’ so you can all see the shirt)
After I joined this choir, it occurred to Blair that he ALSO likes to sing. But, alas, he cannot join with me because he is not a Woman. There is, however, another local choir that takes Women AND Men, so he joined that one. They are under the direction of the High School’s Choir teacher and have had a concert where they sang Mozart’s Requiem. Well, part of it, anyway. Apparently, it’s very long. They are learning the rest. When I heard that Requiem, I wished I was up there, singing that thing! But, suddenly, I realized the big drawback of singing in a choir. And that is, that when you are singing IN the choir, you don’t actually get to HEAR the choir. What you hear is the person behind and next to you, and the piano. When you are in a seat, you get to hear the whole freaking thing!:)
I sing in our church choir, too, and adore doing it. (It always bugs me to end a sentence with ‘it’…let me try again) I adore singing in our church’s choir. (eh, not exactly the same, but oh well)
ANYWAY
They are singing some amazing Christmas music this year. I love the choices of the choir’s director. That woman has imagination, even on a church budget!:) Go Gloria! Blair and I managed to join that one together:)
The upside is, lots of time singing, and fun concerts, AND the red shirt.
The downside is, two nights of practices and His and Hers concerts. The kids think we’re nuts.
My dream is to sing Handel’s Messiah in a choir. I seriously worship the ground that thing was written on. I LOVE that thing. I own the CD and listen to it year round.
*happy sigh*
Between truffles and Christmas music, I think I’m doing pretty good this Holiday Season.
Stop by and get a truffle from me, and I’ll show you the shirt, and give you a flyer for the concert where I will not only SING, but ALSO wear the red shirt:)
Happy Wednesday!
Where will you wear that red shirt? :0
Besides the concerts? I have no idea…:)
You gonna “ALSO where the red shirt:)” … as you say. Ha, ha, ha, ha! I caught you. I finally did. After all these years! Yea!
Come join our ward choir. Our ward choir director, who is approaching 90, has been the choir director in every ward I’ve been in with her for the past 30 years. You see, every time the ward is split (and this goes back before I moved here), every bishop has attempted to tell her that her services are no longer are needed and they want to give someone else an opportunity, Sister M. goes home, crawls in bed, pulls the covers over her head and in between sobs of despair, announces to her 10 children, whom she has called to witness this event, she’s going to die. Within a week, she’s back as choir director. My hubby, aka the Bishop, learned from previous bishops and didn’t release her. But every Christmas our ward gets to hear Handel’s Messiah.
Naturally, there’s another woman in our ward, who believes she should also direct music. She leads the music in sacrament. Has done so for the past few bishops. She also has her quirk. She believes, sincerely, that the music needs to match The Topic, never mind what the Season is. So when December arrived with previous bishops and no Christmas music was sung in Sacrament, I let it be known that I was going to change my faith for 30 days and visit the Presbyterians in Ogden. That didn’t seem to do anything, until my hubby was put in as bishop. He told Sister J that The Topic is Christ and His Birth and we will sing every Christmas Song during Sacrament until Jan. 1. Funny, people actually showed up for our sacraments again in December. Turns out I wasn’t the only one who was mutinous.
Oh, I did not get blessed with the Watts’ musical voice. I love to sing, but no one wants to listen. 🙂 And I hope you don’t mind this is long.
Loretta, you are awesome:)
I WANNA COME!!! I know about yours on the 16th, but when is the ward choir performing? Is it ON Christmas Day? Agreed, that Gloria is one amazing woman!
The ward is singing on the 18th @t 2pm….did you here we are not in our own building? We have been meeting in the building straight up the street from my house.
