It seems to me that little kids go right along, doing what they do, and then suddenly, they turn a little intellectual corner and they’re bigger. It happens with their growth, too. In just the last week, My Dear Husband and I have both noticed that Tiny Baby is suddenly bigger. She’s suddenly round and roly-poly. And she seems more aware somehow. Smarter. I think she has reached one of my favorite stages in baby development- the stage I like to call, Fat Happy Baby. I like this stage for obvious reasons. Babies are fat and they’re happy. Just like they’re supposed to be. 🙂
Miss 2 (almost 3!) has also turned a corner. She never grows, so her corner seems to be purely intellectual. Like Fat, Happy Baby, she also seems more aware. She’s making more sense. She always talks a lot but now there are logical conclusions and questions starting to emerge. For the last week, she has been relentlessly questioning me about invisibility and echolocation.
Yesterday in the car I had the radio on and was mindlessly listening as we drove around. I guess the Adele song, Rumor Has It, was on. When we got back to the house, Miss 2 was trying to understand the phrase “rumor has it.” She started questioning me.
“What does rumor has it mean, mama?”
I tried to explain. “It’s something you heard people saying. Something you heard about.”
She thought it over, asked me a few more times, and then went on her way.
In a few minutes I noticed that she was climbing all over Fat, Happy Baby’s high chair, trying to help her eat. The baby didn’t like this of course, because she is Fat and Happy and she can do this by herself, without any help, thank you very much! I told Miss 2 to get down and leave Fat, Happy Baby alone.
“Mom,” she said, turning around to look at me, “Rumor has it, little girls can do this.”
Thanks a lot, Adele.

Gideon would make miss almost-3 look like a midget…but, I’m pretty sure she’d make him look like an idiot. Granted…he’s a limitless delayed, but she is seriously advanced!
Oh my gosh…curse you auto correct! “little”
Apple must think I am an idiot.
I knew what you meant. No worries!
I LOVE that song! And I love Adele. And I love little kids with their questions, and their conclusions.
I love Adele, too. 🙂
