I know you have all been on pins and needles waiting for me to reveal my NYR (new year’s resolutions). I know I have!
Wait no longer.
Today is the day.
No more waiting.
You are about to know ALL my NYR’s!
Resolutions are forthcoming immediately, along with additional commentary provided as explanations.
Here we go:
#1. Read Jesus The Christ
**This was unintended originally. I can tell you I wouldn’t have thought of this myself. Melinda sent a letter that included her Christmas list and she asked for this book and a dictionary to go with. I know this book is not an easy read, and there is no requirement for her to read it, but here she goes anyway. And, I’ve always had a mom-policy of reading everything my kids read and watching what they watch. (As a disclaimer, I would like to say that I only made it through one Twilight book and one Hunger Games book. I categorically refuse to see a Twilight movie, but have seen both Hunger Games movies. Once on purpose and once out of love for my beautiful Jessica.)
Moving on.
#2 Refinish 3 pieces of furniture. Two that I own now, and one thrift store piece to be named later.
**I love doing this. I realize how much I love it every time I do it, so I want to do it more, more, more. Our kitchen table desperately needs to be redone, and so does the baby dresser downstairs. I’ve also always wanted to buy something just to redo it and maybe sell it even? We shall see:)
#3. Take care of myself, even dare I say, pamper myself a bit, and not feel guilty about doing it.
**You know how it is. We color our hair with $3 boxes of colorant, cut our own bangs, and paint our own nails. (Well, maybe you do, I have Bonny Nails do mine, but, I digress.) We shop at thrift stores and make our own laundry soap. If we DO have our hair cut by a professional, or get a pedicure, heaven forbid, the guilt nearly ruins the experience! Am I right? If you are someone who does not feel guilty then I stand in awe of you. And, soon, I will stand in awe with you, because I am done. I am going to have professionals do things to me that are fun and beautiful, and I am not going to feel guilty about it, either! So there! The first thing I am going to try is getting eyelash extensions. The plan is not to go nuts, but to enjoy some girly fun sans guilt. Go me!:)
#4. Serenity.
**Ok, we all know my life is nuts. There are so many days, and weeks where I simply feel frantic and frazzled. I know the kinds of things that bring me peace, but I feel I need a bit more. I have decided to give daily meditation a try. In addition, I am going to actually sit down, quietly, to do so. AND I am going to remain stationary to pray. My prayers are typically prayers on the go. The shower is a favorite place. I usually pray as needed, quickly, throughout my day. For example, today I saw a sister missionary at the store, and I quickly offered a prayer for my own girl. Watch over her Lord, help her be happy and safe. But I need more, I think. Have you ever read through the twelve steps of AA? The 11th step says: “Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.” I came across this gem on wikipedia as I was googling meditation and prayer, for ideas, and I love it. It is lovely and speaks to me as truth. So, I guess my #4 is really #11? Anyway, I’m doing it.
So, that’s it. I have 4 resolutions this year. Let the New Year officially begin!:)
Yay for refinishing!!! Yay for pampering!!! (And don’t stand in awe of me, but I’ve never felt guilty about having someone play with my hair! LOL) Yay for Serenity!!!
And BTW, “Jesus the Christ” is a MUCH better book than Twilight!!! 😉
