Things you might or might not know about me….and that I rarely confess
1. I am secretly, or maybe not so secretly competitive–I like winning at board games and beating my children at video games. Currently I am a Family Search indexer–the woman in charge recently started e-mailing who (not the names, just the number) indexed the most names each month. Needless to say for the month of May, I indexed over 14,000 names. And yes I was the top indexer. I will also confess that I often check the site stats on the blog just to see if I am getting more view than my sisters. However, I have come to the sad realization that I will most likely never top Barry Manilow.
2. I hate being told I can’t–Doesn’t matter what it is, I have always hated being told that. I took Calculus because my high school counselor said ‘I couldn’t’ (and it turned out to be fun). I joined the swim team in high school not really knowing how to swim because someone said I couldn’t. (I lettered in swimming) It’s also why I had kids with no anesthesia.
3. I love sports–Many of you already know that. I love the Denver Broncos, the Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Rockies. I listen to sports talk radio in my car and have called in to shows more than once. I have played in fantasy leagues and beaten my husbands co-workers. I own a Bronco jersey (Mike Anderson, sadly no longer a Bronco), and a Carmelo Anthony jersey from the Nuggets (still pondering whether or not to burn it–don’t like Melo). I can hold my own in almost any sports conversation and enjoy it.
4. I am often intimidated–I try not to show it but a lot of the time I still feel like a little girl when I walk into a large group. The feeling is always intensified if I am in charge of the meeting or situation.
5. I still crave Mountain Dew– I quit drinking it (and all caffeine) over a year ago and still crave it at least once a week. However I am staying strong.
6. I revert to the middle child at family gatherings–I find myself deferring to my older sister when our family gets together. I also sometimes still find myself feeling needlessly jealous of siblings. There was a Thanksgiving a couple of years ago where I was totally stuck in that role. It was so crazy!
7. I can’t stand rubber band on newspaper. I don’t like styrofoam either but it is not at bad. Even the thought of the newspaper/rubber band combination makes my skin crawl.
8. I won’t let anyone put their feet on me. My kids think that is funny, so they are always trying.
9. I LOVE Twinkies. I would eat one everyday if I could. I especially love them frozen. But really, what is not good about Twinkies. And yes they are good with Mountain Dew.
10. I am not a good house keeper. I try to keep the house fairly tidy. I don’t like to clean, just to buy the cleaning products. I only make my bed because my husband likes it. I strive to see the point but really I just keep thinking why bother?
Last one–I only love grocery shopping when I can use coupons and I can get stuff for cheap or free!
I quit drinking Diet DP also…a couple of times. LOL (Wish I could do it again…so kudos to you!!)
And I’m totally with you on the skin crawling thing…but it’s the styrofoam with me. **shudder**
As I tell Maren often, you can do it! Styrofoam is evil too!
Congrats about getting off the caffeine! And the indexing! 🙂
I love indexers!! It makes my job so much easier! Keep up the good work!!!
PS. I am also competitive 🙂
Thanks for sharing! Good things to know.
Wow! That’s a lot of indexing. You sure beat me! And I’m retired with no kids at home. You put me to shame. (Feel better?) Actually, I quite love your secrets. They are really kind of sweet and cute and human and we all have one or more of them. Well, I do anyway.
