Many of you have already heard the GREAT NEWS!
Maren’s oldest daughter Melinda, got her mission call to Houston, Texas. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, yeehaw!
Yesterday, Maren called me at 3 to say, “AHHH THE CALL IS HERE BUT WE CAN’T OPEN IT UNTIL EVERYONE GETS HOME. THESE PEOPLE KNOW ME TOO WELL, AND THEY WON’T EVEN LEAVE ME ALONE WITH THAT ENVELOPE FOR A MINUTE SO I CAN’T EVEN PEAK.” The minute the words were out of her mouth and into my ears, I teared up and we had to hang up immediately so that Maren wouldn’t also tear up.
Melinda’s decision to serve is very dear to my heart. It was only recently that the LDS Church decided to change the age for sister missionaries from 21 to 19. As a returned missionary, and mother of five daughters, I am so happy to think of all the young women who will now take the opportunity to serve. It may be a cliche (and a movie title!) but I would absolutely describe my mission as “The Best Two Years” and I cannot wait for Melinda, and so many others, to get out there, and experience what Heavenly Father has to teach them. (I am smiling as I type this, thinking of the spiritual, the cultural, and the odd/crazy/downright freaky, experiences I enjoyed!)
GOOD LUCK to MELINDA!
We all love you so much, and even though we didn’t get to hear you read the actual call because Rachel accidentally put us on hold and Miss 9 flipped her lid, we want you to know WE ARE BEHIND YOU every step of the way and can’t wait to hear excerpts from your letters via Maren. 🙂 🙂 🙂
