I have freckles…a fair amount of them. I don’t think about them, they are just there. My dad has freckles. Lots of people in my family have freckles, it kind of goes with the blond/red hair and fair complexion.
I have had a least some freckles all of my life.
To kids however, freckles are a whole conversation.
Take the following conversation between five year old Ben and I. This took place during Primary in whispered tones…accompanied by the hushed giggles of other teachers who could hear us.
Ben: What are those dots on your arm?
Me: They are my freckles.
Ben: No they are your owies. They are hurting you!
Me: No they are just freckles, they don’t hurt.
Ben: Can you take them off?
Me: No, they stay on my skin.
Ben: I should count them for you……You have 188 freckles! That’s a lot, it’s more than 100!
Me: Thanks, Ben. I always wanted to know how many freckles I had.
So there you go–no gray hair and 188 freckles!
