A Sad Tale of Woe from My Dear Husband

It all began Saturday night.  We wanted to attend a church conference together but there were no babysitters to be found because it was also a church youth dance.  We knew we couldn’t attend both conference meetings together, so we decided to  do a swap.  My Dear Husband went to the 4:00 meeting while I gave the girls Saturday night baths and got myself ready to go to the 7:00 meeting.

We were thrown into an uproar when our friends called to invite us out after the conference.  We knew we wouldn’t find a babysitter, but I couldn’t help hoping for a last minute miracle.  My phone calls went unanswered as I knew they would, and I went off to the meeting feeling quite downhearted to know that our friends would be out having a good time afterward, without us.

When I got home, My Dear Husband, knowing my disappointment, had tried his best to prepare a lovely dessert for just the two of us.

looks yummy, doesn’t it?

And it would have been yummy, except it was scorched, smoky, and sadly, inedible.

My poor dear husband.  (In his defense, he is usually a great cook.)

He tried so hard to be thoughtful and do something wonderful.  And in the end I suppose, he actually did do something wonderful.  He reminded me that there was no reason to be disappointed about missing a friend-outing because he is my friend and I was spending time with him.

Later, he revealed the pan.

(this was taken after two days of soaking . . . )

Who knew that one ramekin of yucky pudding and one burned up pan could add up to so much happiness?  I guess there is a moral to this story.

It is the thought that counts!

By the way, if you want to try the recipe, here’s the link:

Just be careful to stir a lot or use a double boiler so you don’t end up with your own sad tale of woe!!

Too sweet! My hubby knew I really wanted a Snickers Ice Cream pie for my birthday one year. The only place that made them was Maddox in Perry, which is 30 minutes from our home. He was working in Park City. So he came home, with sacks from the grocery store and proceeded to make a Snickers pie. He just forgot one thing. It needed to be frozen before serving. 🙂 In our case, it was a soggy dessert that brought happiness.
