Monday marked 19 years of wedded bliss for me and my sweet hubby. The traditional gift for 19 is bronze–I got bronze nail polish. Very nice!
We celebrated our anniversary by going back to the town where we met. We walked around holding hands, talking, and taking pictures. We shared memories both funny and tender. We visited the hospital where two of our children were born, and talked about how very young we were.
We ate at three different restaurants by ourselves. We lingered and talked. We shopped and laughed. He bought me some amazing shoes! I bought him a new bike helmet and pedals. We traded mushy cards and kissed at red lights.
We read the letters we had written each other when we were dating. We looked at our wedding photos and reminisced over all the details. We chuckled over how young we all looked!
We pondered about the next 20 years, what we want to do, and if we were to move–where would we go and why. We talked about the kids growing up and leaving home. We even talked about becoming grandparents some day.
Nobody (meaning children) interrupted with questions or comments. No one told us we were weird, lame, or embarrassing. It was wonderful day. If retirement is even half that fun, sign me up!
Here’s to many more years with my best friend!
